Wyofile's Studio Wyoming Review features my take on Wimmer exhibit

Studio Wyoming Review is the section Wyofile devotes to art in Wyoming, specifically the visual arts. I am one of the writers providing reviews for the Review. Spearheaded by my former Wyoming Arts Council colleague, Camellia El-Antably, SWR fills a gap in arts coverage formerly addressed by some of the state's larger newspapers, if at all. Camellia is an artist who co-owns a Cheyenne gallery, Clay Paper Scissors. It's housed in a renovated downtown building and features work by contemporary regional artists, most of them from Wyoming.

My first contribution to SWR appeared today in WyoFile with the headline: "Wimmer collages draw on past, touch on today's politics" Feel free to read it and tell me what you think.

And keep reading Wyofile. It's a welcome addition to the Wyoming media scene. Not new, really, although some of you may be noticing it for the first time.

Call for artists: Juntos Wyoming May 1 exhibit

Here's a call for entries for a May 1 exhibit in Cheyenne that's part of the May Day March to Keep Families Together sponsored by Juntos Wyoming:

ATTENTION! Calling all Artists from all walks of life...painters, writers, poets, photographers, graphic designers, sculptors and dancers to join us May 1. We are want to have an artist exhibit showcasing the struggles immigrants endure, sacrifices and successes through artwork and literature.

-is art for sale.

Artists need to arrive with their work and setup between 9-11 a.m. So it can be displayed for the duration of the day. Thank you.

There was a curious writer from Wyo, to everyone he met he asked "why-o?"

Do you have a masterpiece tucked away in a drawer? Is a brand new story or poem playing around in that grey matter between your ears? 

Enter your work in the 2013 Wyoming Writers, Inc., writing contest. But hurry — the postmark deadline for entries is March 15. 

In addition to children’s, adult short stories, nonfiction, traditional poetry, and free verse, this contest features our new “Short and Sweet,” a “combo” category set to challenge your writing skills. Tell us a story in flash fiction (500 words or fewer—genre is your choice, but keep it clean!), or entice our judges with limericks (rhymed quintets—again, keep them clean!), the length and style fits well into our way-too-busy life! 

Entry fees vary, depending upon categories chosen and whether or not the author is a member of Wyoming Writers, Inc., but everyone is welcome to join the fun. Again, submissions must be postmarked no later than March 15 and mailed with appropriate entry fees (make checks to Wyoming Writers, Inc., note “contest entry fee”) to: A. M. Call for entries: What's sexy about the zombie apocalypse?

This isn't exactly my cup of tea, but thought I'd pass along this call for entries because it comes from a local press. Who knows, I may even try my writing hand at zombie erotica. As they say, write what you don't know -- you might learn something.

This comes from Angelic Knight Press editor Stacey Turner:

That's right, folks! Our new anthology project is all about zombies. Well, zombies and erotica. What's sexy about the zombie apocalypse? You tell us!

What we're looking for is short fiction, 1k-2k words, featuring zombies and erotica in some form or fashion. I'll be taking 50 stories for the anthology. Subs may be submitted starting today. The deadline for submission is December 31. The proposed date of release is February 14, Valentine's Day.

Regardless of the subject matter, stories must be well written and interesting, with definite emphasis on originality. Please read our submission guidelines page and submit accordingly.

Payment will be shared royalties.

Where did this idea come from? KillerCon of course! It actually began as a joke, but so many people thought it interesting that we decided to run with it. I have to give credit for the title to Benjamin Kane Ethridge. There are already several authors from KillerCon sending stories, so join them and us in this project!

Call for entries: Peace Song Contest

Artists retain rights to their songs, and grant Karen Dunning rights to play the submitted songs for promotional uses to raise awareness for peace.

Call for entries: Open Window online literary magazine

Open Window, the new on-line literary magazine of LCCC’s Albany County Campus in Laramie, invites you to submit your creative work for publication in its inaugural issue. 

Open Window is a literary magazine that publishes three regular issues and one special topics issue each year. We publish new and established writers, and invite you to submit in one or more of the following categories:

*Fiction: up to 5 pages of fiction

*Non-fiction: up to 5 pages of non-fiction

*Poetry: up to three poems or one long poem

*Please submit your creative work via email as an attachment in MS Word document format; work submitted in any other form will not be considered for publication. Submit your work by NOVEMBER 25, 2011, to openwindow.howe78@gmail.com

*Please observe the standard of numbering your pages and using 12-point font.

*Simultaneous submissions are acceptable with immediate notification of alternate publication.
