Big insurance companies may get their way on health care reform

Great Friday post on Robert Reich's blog about the lengths that pharmaceutical and health insurance companies will go in their efforts to kill the single-payer or public health-care option. We knew these greedheads would go all-out to kill a sensible plan.

Read the entire column at http://robertreich.blogspot.com/. Here are some excerpts:

Big Pharma and Big Insurance are gaining ground in their campaign to kill the public option in the emerging health care bill.

You know why, of course. They don't want a public option that would compete with private insurers and use its bargaining power to negotiate better rates with drug companies. They argue that would be unfair. Unfair? Unfair to give more people better health care at lower cost? To Pharma and Insurance, "unfair" is anything that undermines their profits.

It's important for everyone supporting public option or single-payer to write their senators and congresspersons - even if you KNOW what they are gong to do - and let them know healthcare reform is needed.

Write the White House, too. Now is not the time to sit back and be complacent and think that all the work was done when Obama was elected.

This fight is far from a done deal - it is just getting started, and the flurry of news just today on reform and regressives.

Thanks for your superb coverage of this issue, especially the waffling and mealy-mouthing by Montana's Sen. Baucus.
