The Governor's Conference on Aging took place in Casper this week. Here are some alarming stats from an article about the event in the Casper Star-Trib:
"A study done by AARP projects that by the year 2020, Wyoming will have the highest proportion of people between the ages of 65 and 74 in the United States. The state will rank third in the percent of people ages 75 to 84 and fifth in the 85 and older category. Based on these projections, it is possible one in four people in Wyoming will be over the age of 60, the age at which someone is considered a "senior citizen" according to Wyoming statute."
In December 2020, I will turn 70. One out of four of my neighbors will be codger colleagues. Some of us will be playing golf and some will be complaining about the gubment full time. Probably the same group.
Assuming I'm still on the planet, I'll be writing, teaching, traveling, spending time with my wife, haranguing my grown children, power-walking, volunteering, gardening, politicking, and ocassionally just kicking back. I don't play golf. I admire the skills of pro golfers, but it's a trial to be around most recreational golfers, as it's all they seem to be able to talk about.
