As AZ, NM, and UT Go -- So Goes MT

The Center for Public Policy and Administration at the University of Utah reports that Montana might move its primary election from June 3 to Feb. 5 - joining Western states Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah (and five others scattered around the U.S.). Before Feb. 5, primary elections will be held in Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, and South Carolina.

This comes from the CPPA newsletter: "It is very likely that Montana’s legislature will introduce a Western States Primary Election bill when its session begins on Jan. 3. Legislation could move Montana’s presidential primary election from June to February for the 2008 election.... Although a 2005 bill died in the Montana Senate, legislation this year appears to have stronger bipartisan support, including that of Democratic Governor Brian Schweitzer and Republican Secretary of State Brad Johnson."

Schweitzer has said this: "We don't believe in the West that we ought to let Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina pick our presidents."

Amen brother. So what are the plans for Wyoming, Colorado, and Idaho? The idea to have all eight Intermountain states hold their primaries Feb. 5 has been batted around on lots of blogs. I haven't heard anything in WY. What about ID and CO?
