Thanksgiving Thanks
I give thanks this morning for the vivid sunrise that creases the east with reds and oranges and pinks and for the friends and family that will gather at our house later today to eat and drink and talk (God bless us each and every one) and for this house itself which we moved into almost a year ago and now we call home and mean it and for the blessings of the recent elections which may bring a semblance of sanity back to our country and for this country and all its flaws and wonders and its ability to take in immigrants of all kinds even the Irish and the likes of Thomas O’Shea and Martin Hett and all the others of my gene pool. I give thanks for my wife of almost 25 years who keeps me on my toes and she also has to be on her toes because she’s short and must stretch to kiss my lips and for my son and daughter who have challenged me to be a better person and for my dog and cat who are underfoot now waiting to be fed and for the ability to feed them and also the two-leggeds who will gather here later to be fed and for my job which is challenging and fun and for my creativity which comes from a God-spark but has been nurtured by me through many hours of writing in journals and tapping on keyboards and for all those experiences (good and bad) which fed my writing and continue to enliven it today and finally thanks for the time I’ve had on this earth to be me.
