Rep. Cynthia Lummis: Grover Norquist is not in my district!

But he is in my head!

From the Casper Star-Tribune:
U.S. Rep. Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyo., joined dozens of federal lawmakers from both parties on Tuesday in pressing Congress’ special debt reduction committee to consider all options, including higher revenues, and shoot for $4 trillion in savings

Like all but three of the 40 GOP signatories, Lummis has also signed the pledge by anti-tax activist Grover Norquist to oppose tax increases. Lummis said she did so when she was first elected in 2008, but did not sign it last year.

“Grover Norquist is not in my district,” she said. “I represent the state of Wyoming and its people.”

I might have to discontinue dialysis and other life-extending medical treatments so I can die before Lummis raises my taxes! Remember her claim that she had constituents considering suicide to avoid the estate taxes?

Let's remember that most GOP politicians are constantly walking around with their head up their ass and their finger in the air to see which way the wind is blowing. This is nothing more than an attempt to avoid blame for stonewalling legitimate efforts to save this country.

She signed a pledge that says she will "oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates for individuals and/or businesses; and oppose any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollar for dollar by further reducing tax rates."

This pledge did not have a timeframe, and she needs to do more than just say say she regards it as non-binding -- she needs to show that she intends to move this country forward to correct the economic crisis brought on by her peers.

The devil is in the details. I was so excited just to see that Lummis might not be as doctrinaire as I feared. Thanks for filling in my blanks.
