The Wyoming Republican Party has received "a handful of applications" and will hold a public meeting June 19 to select a replacement for the late Sen. Craig Thomas.
Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Thursday. I guess you're just supposed to slip them under the door of GOP HQ -- if you can find it, as today's newspaper articles had no mailing address.
Candidates showing interest in the job thus far are Wyoming Rep. Colin Simpson, son of Sen. Alan "Big Al" Simpson; Wyoming Sen. John Barrasso, who wants to keep gay married couples out of Wyoming; Matt Mead, recently retired U.S. attorney for WYO who was on the U.S. Attorney general's hit list (but who wasn't?); and, according to the Casper Star-Tribune, former GOP chair Tom Sansonetti of Cheyenne.
No mention of U.S. Second Lady (and Casper native) Lynne Simpson. For now, anyway (ominous organ music sounds in the background).
