Wyoming Dems elect new chairman

The Wyoming Democratic Party central committee elected Cheyenne ophthalmologist John Millin, who was the party treasurer, over Mike Gierau April 28 in an officers' election in Casper. Chuck Herz of Jackson was elected the new state party treasurer.

Millin — whose wife, Lori, is a state legislator — said he has been planning to run for chairman for years and that Gierau’s recent DUI arrest had nothing to do with his decision. Millin told reporters that he plans on recruiting grassroots candidates, mobilizing Democrats and matching the Democratic National Committee’s effort of competing in all 50 states by competing for each of Wyoming’s counties.

"I think we need to adopt the same strategy and go into every county," Millin said. "I think we’re so red at this point that any improvement is worth the effort."

In March, Millin stepped down as chair of the Laramie County Democrats.
