Trauner Looks Back

The battle by Wilson’s Gary Trauner to defeat Rep, Barbara Cubin for Wyoming lone seat in the U.S. House was named the top news story of 2006 in balloting by members of The Associated Press and the wire service's Wyoming staff.

Trauner ended up 1,000 votes short of upseating Cubin on Nov. 7. He swamped the six-term Republican in the state’s more populous areas (Laramie, Albany, Sweetwater and Natrona counties) while Cubin had the edge in rural areas, especially in the northern part of the state.

In the Dec. 27 Casper Star-Tribune, Trauner looked back at the campaign. Here’s an excerpt:

More than a month after the election, Trauner does still wonder what he could have done differently to bridge the narrow vote gap. Could his campaign have worked to get more young people out to vote? Could he have knocked on more doors? Could he have been more hard-hitting against his opponent in his advertisements?

Maybe next time?
