Nine Votes

I received this e-mail last night from Lori Millin, the Democratic Party candidate in House District 8: "As most of you know I was the unofficial winner for the Wyoming State House of Representatives-District 8 on Tuesday evening by only 9 votes. A recount was done today at the Laramie County Clerk’s Office lasting 4 hours. The recount proved to have the same numbers as Tuesday evening -- 1947 Larry Meuli votes and 1956 Millin votes. I must say the County Clerk’s Office ran the recount very professionally leaving no doubt there could ever be voter fraud in Laramie County. On November 15th, the State Canvassing Board will certify all the General election results. I want to thank all of you again for all your hard work for the campaign."

Nine votes. If my wife and I and three others had voted the other way, Meuli would be returning to the State House for his sixth term. I've been in his district for the past eight years and he's been a pretty good rep. But he is a Republican that usually votes with the substantial -- and very stodgy -- Repub bloc. Lori Millin will vote differently and will be more forward-thinking that Meuli.

Congrats to Lori. I look forward to bugging her about issues related to the arts, education, and social service needs.
