Cheyenne NAACP and Occupy Cheyenne search for common ground

The next meeting of the NAACP Unit #4108 is scheduled for Monday, January 9, beginning at 6:30 p.m., in the Sunflower Room of the Laramie County Public Library in downtown Cheyenne.  The meeting will focus on finalizing events and activities for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 16 and February’s Black History Month.

NAACP members are invited to General Assembly meeting sponsored by Occupy Cheyenne on Thursday, Jan. 5, 5:30-7 p.m., at the Paramount Cafe, 1607 Capitol Ave., in downtown Cheyenne. We have common ground in Martin Luther King, Jr.'s, philosophy of nonviolent protests against the powers and principalities that join forces to keep us all down. More info at Occupy Cheyenne on Facebook.

This article is very vague and limited with information. I am both aware of both organizations, but do not know why or if there is rift or a perceived rift with these two groups.
Dr. King's birthday is a federal holiday and most communities recognize this holiday in some way, such as a parade or luncheon, etc. I realize the African American population is limited in Cheyenne but people of all races celebrate this day. First time reading anything about these two being perhaps in dispute, so the article could have included some background information. This may have generated interests in both organizations to have a suitable turn out for the meeting.

Now that I read my post again, it is confusing. I was just trying to bring up the topic that Occupy Cheyenne and the NAACP have some common goals centered around Martin Luther King, Jr.'s, commitment to social justice. At our GA meeting Thursday, I brought up the fact that some of us should attend the NAACP meeting on Monday to get their members' feelings about our participation in the Jan. 16 march and rally in downtown Cheyenne. That's the "common ground" I was referring to.

BTW, my wife and I have both been members of the local NAACP and she is on the planning committee of the city's Juneteenth celebration.
